The Team
We are building a dynamic team where creativity meets scientific rigor, inviting talented scientists of all backgrounds to join us in this exciting journey of discovery.

Dr. Idan Frumkin
Principal Investigator
Dr. Idan Frumkin earned his BSc in Life and Medical Sciences from Tel Aviv University and his PhD from the Weizmann Institute of Science, where he studied the molecular evolution of cells.
After completing postdoctoral research on mechanisms of gene birth at MIT, he joined the Faculty of Life Sciences at Tel Aviv University in 2025 as a Principal Investigator.
Idan is dedicated to teaching and mentoring the next generation of scientists. Outside the lab, he enjoys reading science fiction, dining at Michelin-starred restaurants, and spending time with his family.

Stav Kabel
Stav received her BSc and MSc from Tel Aviv University, where she studied mechanisms of bacteriophage decision-making. As our amazing lab manager, Stav supports the smooth operation of the lab, contributes her scientific expertise, and helps mentor students.
Outside the lab, she enjoys being in nature, traveling, crafting, and spending quality time with her loved ones.
Lab Manager

Yael received her BSc in Life Sciences from Tel Aviv University and is currently in the direct PhD track.
Yael's research focuses on the mechanisms underlying de novo toxin emergence in bacteria. Outside the lab, she enjoys watching movies, reading books, and spending time with her family.
Yael Gershon
PhD Student

Atzmon Ghilai
PhD Student
Atzmon holds BSc and MSc degrees in Computer Science from Bar-Ilan University. He was a co-founder of Phonetic Systems, a speech recognition startup later acquired by an American company.
Atzmon joined the lab as a PhD student, where he applies machine learning approaches to gene classification and the design of novel genes. Outside the lab, he is a licensed light-aircraft pilot and enjoys skiing, cycling, and hiking.

Gili Rotbard
Gili Rotbard is a PhD student in the lab. She received her BSc in Biology from Tel Aviv University and her MSc from the Weizmann Institute of Science.
Gili is interested in fundamental questions in molecular evolution and the principles that shape evolutionary processes. Outside the lab, she enjoys traveling, practicing yoga, and drinking good coffee.
PhD Student

Jana completed her BSc in Biology and Biotechnology at Tel Aviv University. She is interested in scientific research and is currently gaining experience in the lab.
Outside the lab, Jana enjoys learning about nature, listening to music, and spending time with friends.
